Funky Street Life from Dashwood Apron

I have been busy getting my eldest son ready for food tech tomorrow, this apron took about an hour to make.  I have used the fab Dashwood Studio’s Street Life collection (click here) and to make sure it will withstand cooking lessons for 11-year-olds, I have applied fusible interfacing (click here).

Really pleased with the results, this collection is truly beautiful, definitely going to have to make a Colette Dahlia dress out of this one!

During this 4 week course you will learn all you need to know to get going.

  • We will make reversible bags, introducing sewing around curves, top stitching and hand sewing.

  • We will be making half aprons (they are ones that start at the waist!) with pockets.
  • Skills covered will include making and sewing with bias tape, gathering and adding pockets.

christmas tree skirt sewing pattern free tutorial
During this workshop you will be making a Christmas tree skirt, designed to keep your tree looking festive after the presents have all gone!

Not only is this a great make, but it’s a great introduction to quilting!

SUITABLE FOR: All you need is a basic understanding of your sewing machine, how to thread & how to sew in lines.

SKILLS COVERED:  Pattern cutting, using fusible wadding, stitching in the ditch (quilting), sewing with bias tape.

Did you know that most sewing patterns are designed with a B or C cup in mind?  If you are larger than this you will be used to finding the underarm areas of sleeveless tops gapping, showing off more bra than you would like, and to having trouble getting dresses to fit every part of your body at the same time!

Spend an evening learning how to adjust standard sewing patterns to allow for your real shape. We will be sewing a simple vest top, with bias binding around the armholes and neckline.  Once you have adjusted your pattern you can take it home to make a wardrobe full of bespoke tops!

SUITABLE FOR: This is a great introduction to sewing clothes, you will need to be able to thread a machine and have had practice sewing straight lines.

SKILLS COVERED:  Measuring yourself, adjusting patterns to fit your upper body, reading sewing patterns and sewing with bias tape.

Make your first waffle floor cushion – we say first as it won’t be long before you have a stack in the corner of your room!

SUITABLE FOR: All you need is a basic understanding of your sewing machine, how to thread & how to sew in lines.

SKILLS COVERED: Pattern cutting (using quilting ruler), making a box cushion (without zip), hand sewing (ladder stitch).

  • You can bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours.
  • We keep classes small to ensure you get our full attention, 4-6 people per session.
  • Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 7pm to 9.30pm.
  • We are based in Witney.

We also offer one to one sewing tuition, and can come to your home if you prefer – why not hold a sewing party, invite a few keen sewers and we can tailor the evening to your needs.  Contact us at for further information.

Specialist bunting tapes in a new range of colours!

We have been stocking our fab specialist bunting tape for a while now, and would never use anything else to make bunting.  It has a pre-set crease running down the centre, is strong and won’t stretch and sag in the way bias tape does.

Until now we have only been able to source the tape in white, but we have now managed to get our own range of colours made out of the same material, so these colours really are exclusive to us!

Colette Sewing Patterns – Fab Designs for Classy Grown ups!

We are so excited to be stocking Colette patterns.  So many women’s patterns that you see in the shops look like they were designed in the 1980s and have just been reproduced year after year, but not Colette’s!

Their range has a really crisp, clean feel, while still managing to be timeless and really classy, beautiful patterns for skirts, dresses, tops and trousers, for women and men.

Their patterns are really easy to follow (a member of our team used a Colette pattern to sew their first top and then a dress and it all went fine!).  There are detailed but not overly complicated instructions and each pattern clearly states on the front the skill level needed to make it.

If you are tempted, we would love to sell you a pattern or two, if you not sure about trying a new brand, we recommend downloading one of their free patterns and trying that first – we did and now we stock the brand!

Getting Excited About our New Range of Bunting Sewing Kits!

We have been finalizing the colour combinations for the first release of our new She Sews bunting kits later this month.

We will have a girly one, boyish one (very New York loft style), a rainbow one (we have singing the nursery rhyme all day to make sure we get all the colours in!) and a festive one (inspired by Christmas fabrics and tree lights!)

Each kit will include all the bunting triangles pre cut, plus our specialist bunting tape and full instructions, and it will all be wrapped up in a cotton bunting storage bag!

We will be offering ‘open’ bunting, where the triangles are spread out, great where you want a lot of bunting as you get a beautiful effect without the high cost of closed bunting, and closed bunting, where the triangle’s tips touch each other – great for decorating a fireplace or bedroom.

You can pick the length of bunting your pack will make, from 1 mtr to 10 mtrs (plus ties) and even pick up an applique option to add iron on letters and numbers to your flags.
