One to One Quilting Course – Look What Tamsin Made!

Tamsin attended our 5 week introduction to sewing course here in Witney in Oxfordshire and then decided to try quilting, over a few sessions, with lots of homework and determination she made this Рand it really is her first quilt!

We will cover all the steps involved in making a full size quilt, but by making a cushion cover you can complete the make in less time, with no home work and a smaller cost.

If you fancy making a quilt like Tamsin get in touch via email, this one takes 4 sessions with some homework inbetween, but on a flexible timeline Рas you complete a step you contact us and arrange a date to do the next bit etc.. Including all the materials to make a mtr square quilt this bespoke course is £120.

Martha’s 5 Week Introduction to Sewing Course

Martha has now completed her 5 week introduction to sewing course, here in Witney, Oxfordshire, and look what she made!

Martha was a complete beginner in week one but has now made an envelope cushion cover, reversible bag, summer dress for her beautiful daughter and zipper pouch!

She has learnt to control the fabric through her sewing machine, how to thread her machine and all about tension, how to sew on the straight and curves, pivot turns, all about interfacing, box corners, zips the bias and bias tape making, not to mention pattern reading and achieving the perfect fit for children.

Week 4 of Martha’s Introduction to Sewing Course and look what she has made!

If you watch the Great British Sewing Bee you may have seen people struggling with the concept of the bias this week and Martha, who has only been sewing for 4 weeks, has already made her own bias tape and used it finish her first dress, covering arm holes and making spaghetti straps!

Fabulous of course!

We had a great time at our sewing lesson on Friday here in Witney, helping 4 talented ladies get to grips with making and sewing with piping cord, cutting on the bias and using zips to make almost invisible openings on cushion covers.

Look what Martha Made – Week 2

It is Martha’s second EVER sewing lesson and today we almost finished the verypurpleperson’s¬†reversible bag (search for her on the internet to download this fab free pattern).

We added woven interfacing to one side of the bag to give it structure and it looks great!

Martha has perfected sewing darts and mastered curves – big and small – sewing and snipping!

We just need to top stitch around the handles next week and this project will be complete.

We are Excited to Announce our Spring/Summer Sewing Lessons!

Our Summer 2016 Sewing School brochure has just been launched!  We have an exciting range of courses on offer, each designed to teach you a particular set of skills as we complete a project in one evening here in Witney, West Oxfordshire!

We will have a new set of courses after a break in the summer so we can’t guarantee these ones will reappear for a while…

Sewing for Children

We have a number of courses on offer that will help you get to grips with using sewing patterns and sewing clothes for children this summer…

A-line dress workshop РDuring this course we will tackle sewing with patterns, seams in an unlined dress, and making a placket (you will impress yourself with this one!).  This pattern is not complicated, but the seams are lined with bias binding and this can be tricky to get lined up.   For that reason we would recommend complete sewing novices start with our reversible dress workshop rather than this one.

Reversible dress workshop РA great introduction to sewing clothes for kids, all the seams in this dress are hidden and it is totally reversible Рtwo dresses in one!  You can finish the dress with poppers, ties, buttons or regular straps.  The workshop includes all the materials you need to make one dress (you can choose your fabrics from across our store) and you get a copy of the pattern to take away with you.


Simple Summer Dress Workshop – A great lightweight dress, perfect for the summer holidays and in sizes up-to 8 years old, as well as all the basics you will get to sew with bias tape – more skills in the bank!


Sun Hats Workshop – This pattern can be made in sizes from toddler all the way through to adult! ¬†Come and make 1 reversible hat with us and it won’t be long before your whole family have matching hats for those group outings ūüėČ ¬†As well as using patterns, we will be using creative fusible interfacings and sewing with no visible seams.

Sewing for Adults

As we all our sun hat sewing class, directly above this one in this list, we have our A-line skirt workshop.

A-line Skirt Workshop –¬†At this workshop we will tackle working with patterns, seam finishes and sewing with zips, you get to pick your fabric from across the store and get a full copy of the pattern to take home too.

Bust Adjustment Course Learn how to adjust your patterns to fit, moving the bust line up or down, increasing the space allowed for a full bust (FBA) or decreasing it with a small bust adjustment (SBA) we will cover all these techniques as we make the classic Colette vest top in one evening.

Sewing for your Home

Beginner’s Cushion Covers – Perfect for sewing novices, make an envelope style cushion cover in one evening!¬†In one evening we will make an envelope style cushion cover. ¬†We will cover seam finishes, sewing straight lines and going round corners.

Cushion Covers Level 2 Already nailed basic cushion covers?  Take your skills to the next level by adding piping and zips for a truly professional finish!

Roman Blinds РMake a blind for your own home, made to measure (upto 1mtr long x 1mtr wide), with professional looking results.  Roman blinds are a stylish option for your windows, they let in lots of light and are economical, using the minimum amount of fabric to cover your window. During this workshop we will take you step by step through all the stages involved in making your first blind.

We Had A Hoot At Our Owl Cushion Sewing Class!

We run this class throughout the year, Sophie, responsible for this great Owl, was only on her 2nd ever lesson!

During the lesson we tackle sewing all sorts of curves and invisible hand-sewing.
